Happy Halloween!
Welcome back to my blog! I am truly sorry for being inactive for months. Since the term started, I had a little spare time, and most of them were spent on writing for my Wattpad book.
On this post, I would love to review a new Hulu original show, which actually is based on a Wattpad book titled Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.
Light as a feather... I don't know whether or not you have heard about this game, but I hadn't heard about it until I read the Wattpad book. And I actually did a quick research about it. According to Wikipedia, light as a feather stiff as a board is actually a slumber party game, which includes some levitation tricks. Though the Wattpad book describes the game as a hypnosis like ritual, the author included some horror in it. Then one by one, the stories of how one died were becoming true and as gruesome as the story teller told. But today I am not going to talk about the book or how they are different. I will review only the show. So, let's get to it, shall we?
Warning: mild spoiler.
At the beginning, you might get a little mean girl gang vibes. Actually, even if they have a blonde alpha girl as the leader (Olivia), they are actually best friends--Alex, Candace, and McKenna. It started with the Halloween tradition that the gang had. But that night, they invited the new girl, Violet. Then they began to play the game, starting with McKenna (whose story can't be told or seen by Violet), then Olivia, Candace, and Alex.
They thought it was just the game, until Olivia dies, and everything began to change. Candace started to blame Violet, the story teller on that game, on her friend's death, resulting on everybody thinking that she was mad and grieving. McKenna and Alex began to suspect the new girl too. All the dramas revolving and Candace's expected death were only increasing the suspicions towards the new girl. With the help of Henry Richmond, Olivia's brother; and Trey Emory, the boy next door, secrets began to unravel. Who is Violet? What are her intentions? Was the deceased twin had something to do with why Violet couldn't tell how McKenna would die that night? And was the game really cursed?
Personally, I think this show is quite addicting for me. It makes me wanting more and more of it. I am not a huge fan of horror, but when I watched the trailer early this autumn, I got excited. I have always known that the show is going to be different from the book, so I hadn't expected that much. But, mind you, I became too invested in the show by the time I saw the pilot. The fact that Brent Rivera and Dylan Sprayberry are in it, is an addition to my excitement.
I would love to recommend you to watch Light as a Feather on this Halloween (welp, it's today!). And if you have read the book and wonder whether or not you will see the gruesome details of Olivia's and Candace's death, do not worry. As I have stated earlier, the plot is different from the book, so everything would be different.
The ending itself is unexpected. But sadly, the only thing that I am still confused about is how is Henry's missing had something to do with the plot? I don't understand, and I think it is not that necessary. But overall, there are plenty of things that you can still enjoy, like the alternate plot, the mystery and the suspense. The CGI were also great. And I don't really think that the genre horror suits the show. It is more of supernatural and mystery for me.
Anyway, I think that is all for now. I hope to see you sooner. Have a spooky Halloween!!
Lotsa love,
Mary xx
